How to Grow Pussy Willow in Water
Things You’ll Need:
- Mature Pussy willow plant
- Glass jar or vase
- Clean water
- Rooting hormone (optional)
Steps for Growing Pussy Willow in Water
1. Choose Healthy Cuttings
Take mature, healthy 8-12 inches long cuttings from pussy willow plant. Select the branches that have 2-3 buds.
2. Prepare the Cuttings
Use clean, sharp pruning shears and trim the cuttings below the leaf node. Discard any leaf or buds that can be submerged in the water.
3. Fill Water in the Jar
Fill the vase or glass jar with non-chlorinated water; allow the tap water to sit overnight for this purpose (it will leach out chlorine from the water).
4. Place Cuttings in the Water
Dip the cut ends in the water as per instructions on the package (optional). Now insert the cuttings in the water, and ensure at least one leaf node is suspended in the water.

Keep the vase in a place with bright, indirect light.
6. Changing Water
Change water frequently to avoid the growth of algae. You have to change the water in every couple of days.
